Pune: 54-Year-Old Man Arrested for Rape and Murder of Two Minor Sisters
Pune, 26th December 2024: In a shocking incident, Pune Rural Police have arrested a 54-year-old man for the rape and murder of two minor sisters, aged 8 and 9, in a town in Pune district. The crime has sparked widespread outrage and raised concerns over the safety of children in the region.
The accused, who works as a cook in a local hotel, lived next door to the victims and was known to their family. According to the police, the bodies of the two girls were discovered last night in a water storage drum in a room near their house.
The case came to light on Monday morning when the family reported the younger girl missing while she was playing outside. A search operation was launched, leading to the grim discovery of the girls’ bodies hours later.
Investigators revealed that the elder sister was kidnapped and killed after she tried to intervene upon hearing her sibling’s cries. The accused allegedly sexually assaulted one girl before killing both and disposing of their bodies in the drum.
The victims’ father works as a cleaner, and their mother is a laborer. The accused was apprehended while attempting to flee to North India and has been booked under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
A senior police officer stated, “The accused has been arrested for the crime of raping and murdering the minor girls. Further investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the act.”
