AFMC PUNE TO HOST ARMED FORCES MEDICAL CONFERENCE FROM 01 TO 03 FEB 2023

Pune, 30th January 2023: Armed Forces Medical College, Pune is organizing the 71st Annual Armed Forces Medical Conference–2023 and the 61st Armed Forces Medical Research Committee (AFMRC) Meeting in online mode from 01 to 03 Feb 2023. This conference will be the largest online interaction of Medical, Dental & Nursing professionals from Army, Navy & Air Force and is the only multi-specialty conference of its kind in the country. Health care professionals of the Armed Forces are undertaking cutting edge institutional, multicentric and collaborative research projects which benefit not only the Armed Forces but also the society at large. The conference is being held in online mode for the third consecutive year.

The three day conference, being organized at AFMC Pune under the steermanship of Maj Gen D Vivekanand, Dean & officiating Commandant, AFMC will deliberate on a spectrum of healthcare matters relevant to the Armed Forces.

The conference will be inaugurated virtually by Lt Gen Daljit Singh, AVSM, VSM, PHS, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) & Senior Colonel Commandant, Army Medical Corps on 01 Feb 2023.

The conference will commence with awards for excellence in academics in postgraduate and in-service training courses. Awards for best research papers & Reviewers for Medical Journal Armed Forces of India (MJAFI) and best AFMRC completed research projects will be presented during the conference.

At the core of the deliberations will be the 61st Annual Meeting of Armed Forces Medical Research Committee (AFMRC). The AFMRC provides a platform to the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) researchers posted all over the country to meaningfully contribute and be a part of this enormous research and learning process. The research proposals received from three services cover a wide range of healthcare issues impacting the Armed Forces.

Innovation and evolution in medical research are imperative to address healthcare challenges of the armed forces personnel deployed in varied operational platforms and diverse terrains. Therefore with a view to encourage innovations and creativity AFMRC will also include a special session on innovations in healthcare practice and delivery.

Guest speakers of eminence would share their insight on varied topics. One of the key events of the conference is the MJAFI oration, which will be delivered by Dr. VM Katoch, Former Director General, ICMR; President, JIPMER, Puducherry and Chairman LEPRA Society. The other Guest lecturers include Dr. Vivek Lal, Professor & HoD, Dept. of Neurology & Director PGI, Chandigarh, and Dr. Probal Neogi, President elect, Association of Surgeons of India, & Professor, Dept of Surgery, Motilal Nehru Medical College, Prayagraj, UP.

The Armed Forces Medical Academic Committee (AFMAC) meeting, one of the important events of the conference which deliberates on the academic and training matters at the various training institutions of the AFMS, will be attended by senior dignitaries of the AFMS. Lt Gen Madhuri Kanitkar, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd), Honorable Vice Chancellor, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik and Dr Sanjeev Thakur, Dean, BJ Medical College, Pune will also be attending the same.

A session on Perspective challenges of the AFMS will include lectures by Maj Gen Punit Yadav, MG Med (HQ MG & G) Area and by Brig B Harikrishnan, Commandant, Base Hospital, Lucknow. Specialists conferences with brainstorming sessions on future core areas of research in respective specialties are an inherent part of the conference.

Over the years the conference has gradually expanded in scope to become a forum for planning, evaluation and implementation not only of research but also health care innovations. Though the principal focus of research is related to the healthcare needs and challenges of the Armed Forces, the outcomes achieved are applicable to all healthcare professionals and for the benefit of the society at large.
