Pune, 12th February 2025: Following the completion of ‘Mission 15’, a large-scale road repair initiative, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to roll out ‘Mission 17’, focusing on upgrading key roads across the city. The project aims to address damaged roads, footpaths, street furniture, and encroachments, improving overall infrastructure for commuters.

PMC officials confirmed that ₹2 crore was spent over the past two months on the first phase, which covered 95 km of road repairs. Locations improved under ‘Mission 15’ include:

Nagar Road, Solapur Road, Magarpatta Road, Pashan Road, Baner Road, Sangamwadi Road
Airport VIP Road, Karve Road, Paud Road, Satara Road, Sinhagad Road, Bibvewadi Road
North Main Road, Ganeshkhind Road, and Bajirao Road

With ‘Mission 15’ completed, the civic body will now conduct a survey of 17 major roads to assess their condition and determine necessary repairs. The upcoming ‘Mission 17’ will include improvements on:

Saswad Road, Fergusson College Road, Jangli Maharaj Road, Senapati Bapat Road, Sadhu Vaswani Road
Kondhwa Main Road, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Tilak Road, and several others

Despite the large-scale repair work, citizen activists have raised concerns about the effectiveness of PMC’s approach, pointing out issues such as poor planning and lack of adherence to national road safety standards.

“Simply repairing roads is not enough if underlying traffic issues remain unaddressed. The PMC often neglects the Indian Road Congress (IRC) guidelines, leading to subpar results,” said Vivek Velankar, a member of the Sajag Nagrik Manch, a citizens’ group advocating for better urban infrastructure.
