Pune, 3rd September 2021: Defective or intentional misreading of electricity meter causes loss of revenue to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited(MSEDCL). At the same time, consumers have to suffer unnecessarily due to bill repairs.

“This type of negligence will not be tolerated at all.”, Ankush Nale, Pune Regional Director, MSEDCL, warned that if there is any failure to take accurate readings of electricity meters, the concerned meter reading agencies will be directly blacklisted along with financial penalties.

A review meeting is being held with the contractors of Ganeshkhind, Rastapeth and Pune Gramin Mandal as well as Satara, Solapur, Satara, Kolhapur and Sangli Mandal meter reading agencies under Pune Regional Division to prevent faulty readings and errors in electricity meters.

Nale was speaking at a meeting of meter reading agency contractors in Ganeshkhind Mandal held at Prakash Bhavan on SB Road in Pune. Superintendent of Engineers Shankar Tayde and Pankaj Tagalpallewar, Deputy General Manager Eknath Chavan and others were present on the occasion. During the meeting, Nale gave examples of errors and faulty readings in meter readings and ordered various measures.

He further said, “After MSEDCL started electricity meter reading through mobile app, meter reading has become more accurate. It is the responsibility of MSEDCL to provide accurate electricity bills of meter readings to the consumers. However, despite the use of modern technology, due to the carelessness and negligence of the agencies, errors or omissions are being found in the meter readings. That will not be tolerated at all. An average of 5 per cent meter readings is also being inspected and supervised by MSEDCL to verify the meter readings taken by the agencies.”
