Pune, 10 April 2025: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is working to make engineering education more accessible by translating textbooks into 12 Indian languages. By the end of 2026, students studying engineering diplomas and degrees will have access to textbooks in their language. As part of this initiative, around 600 books for first and second-year courses are translated and uploaded. Work on third and fourth-year books is currently underway.

AICTE Chairman T.G. Sitharam stated, “We have completed around 40–50 books for the third year. This initiative will help explain complex engineering concepts in students’ mother tongues.”

Key Features:
– Languages covered: Marathi, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Urdu, Odia, and Assamese.
– Branches included: Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Science.
– Learning model: Each chapter includes objectives, outcome-based components, and problem-solving exercises.

Use of AI:
AICTE is using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to accelerate and streamline the translation process, ensuring accurate and coherent technical content.

Optional, Not Mandatory:
Learning in regional languages is optional, not compulsory. It serves as an additional resource, especially helpful for students from rural backgrounds or those struggling with English, to better grasp engineering concepts.

Significance:
This initiative aligns with the goals of the National Education Policy 2020 and is aimed at making technical education more inclusive, accessible, and understandable through mother tongue instruction.
