Air India Plane Crash Tragedy: Rescue Operations Underway; Emergency Helpline Numbers Activated

Ahmedabad, 12th June 2025: A major aviation tragedy struck Gujarat on Thursday afternoon as an Air India flight en route to London’s Gatwick Airport crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad. The aircraft, carrying 242 people, went down near the Shahibaug airstrip, sending shockwaves across the nation.

According to the information, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has departed for Ahmedabad in response to the incident. Civil aviation authorities and emergency services have launched large-scale rescue and relief operations at the crash site.

Air India has issued a dedicated helpline number — 1800 5691 444 — for families and the public seeking information about the crash. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has also activated its operations control center, which can be reached at 011-24610843 or 9650391859.

Ahmedabad City Police has shared a separate emergency contact number, 079-25620359, for assistance and updates related to the crash.

Initial reports confirm that seven Portuguese nationals were among the passengers. The Indian Embassy has assured full support to the affected families and released an emergency contact number for urgent help: +351 911 991 939.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu expressed deep shock over the accident. “I am personally monitoring the situation. All aviation and emergency response agencies have been directed to act swiftly. Rescue teams have been deployed and relief efforts are ongoing at the site,” he said in a statement.

Fire and emergency services reached the scene within minutes of the crash. Three teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), comprising 90 personnel, were dispatched from Gandhinagar. An additional three NDRF teams are being mobilized from Vadodara to assist in the rescue efforts.
