Ahmedabad, 12th June 2025: A major aviation disaster struck Gujarat on Thursday (12th June) as an Air India flight heading to London crashed just five minutes after taking off from Ahmedabad killing 242 on-board passengers. The cause of the crash remains unknown at this stage.

Teams from the Border Security Force (BSF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have reached the crash site and are engaged in rescue and recovery operations. A primary focus of their efforts is locating the aircraft’s black box, which is critical to uncovering what caused the crash.

The black box, a vital flight recorder, comprises two components — the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR). The FDR logs crucial technical details including airspeed, altitude, engine performance, and flight path, while the CVR captures cockpit conversations, pilot communications, and other critical audio data.

Experts believe that once the black box is recovered, it will offer definitive insights into whether the crash was caused by a technical malfunction, human error, or other factors. Built with highly durable materials, the black box is designed to survive extreme conditions, including fire and water, ensuring that investigators can retrieve vital flight data even in catastrophic crashes.

As the nation mourns the loss of all 242 passengers, the focus now turns to understanding what went wrong. Investigative teams and aviation authorities are expected to release further information once the black box is secured and analyzed.
