Armed Forces Flag Day Fundraising Launched in Pune; Citizens Urged to Contribute Generously

Pune, 7th December 2023: As part of the nationwide observance of Armed Forces Flag Day, Pune District Additional Collector Ajay More has called upon government offices, philanthropic individuals, charitable organizations, and companies to actively participate in the fundraising activities to support the welfare of soldiers.

The appeal was made during the launch of the Armed Forces Flag Day 2023 Fund Collection at the Collectorate organized by the District Soldier Welfare Office.

More underscored the pivotal role played by soldiers in safeguarding the nation’s borders and ensuring the safety of its citizens. More urged the community to express gratitude to the soldiers by making generous contributions to the Flag Day fund, dedicated to supporting the welfare of ex-servicemen, war widows, and their families. The Armed Forces Flag Day serves as a tribute to the sacrifices made by soldiers, and More emphasises the importance of citizens being aware of the relentless efforts and sacrifices of those who protect the nation.

In 2022, the Pune district had an Armed Forces Flag Day Fund target of INR 2,59,85,000, with an achievement of INR 1,74,57,852, representing 67% of the set goal. These funds are directed towards various welfare schemes, including educational grants, hostel facilities for military boys and girls, financial assistance for widows of soldiers who participated in World War II, and other initiatives, as detailed by Lt. Col. SD Hange. The event also acknowledged the noteworthy contributions of organizations and government offices in the previous year’s Flag Day fund collection, honouring them with motivational certificates. Special awards, including checks distributed to ex-servicemen and their children, were part of the recognition.

Additionally, outstanding individuals in examinations and sports were honoured, encouraging active community participation in fundraising efforts. The presence of representatives from various ex-servicemen organizations and political parties highlighted the collective commitment to supporting and recognizing the sacrifices of the armed forces.
