Army Imposter Arrested For Cheating Many Youths With Recruitment Bet, Pune Military Intelligence And Satara Police Joint Action

Pune/Satara, 5th April 2022: Based on a specific tip-off from the Military Intelligence (MI) unit of the Army’s Pune-based Southern Command, Satara police have arrested a man who impersonated an Army Jawan duped many youths of lakhs of rupees under promising to help them in recruitment. Three FIRs have been registered till now.

The arrested accused has been identified as Pravin Shivaji Margaje (31), a resident of Kanhawadi in Khandala taluka of Satara district. During the search, police have recovered forged identity cards, Indian Army uniforms, four mobile phones, bank passbooks, SIM cards, cartridges of airguns and other incriminating documents.

Till now FIRs have been registered by duped youths at Dahiwadi, Vaduj police stations in Satara district. More cases are expected in the Kolhapur district and other places.

Around 12.45 pm on April 4, after getting information about Margaje’s presence in Kanhawadi in Khandala taluka, a joint team of MI and Satara Police nabbed him for taking money from prospective youth for getting them recruited into Army. He had been taking Rs nine lakh from each candidate – Rs 4.5 lakh before and Rs 4.5 lakh after recruitment. He has duped many youths in Maan and Khatav areas of Satara, police said.

Margaje has been arrested in a case registered by the Dahiwadi police station. Assistant Police Inspector Santosh Tasgaonkar is further investigating the case.

Superintendent of Police (Satara) Ajay Kumar Bansal and Additional Superintendent of Police Ajit Borhade are supervising the investigation. The team includes Local Crime Branch (LCB) Police Inspector Kishore Dhumal, API Ramesh Garje and police personnel Uttam Dabde, Tanaji Mane, Vishwanath Sapkal, Santosh Sapkal, Sharad Beble, Mangesh Mahadik, Pravin
Phadtare, Laxman Jagadhane, Pramod Sawant, Abhit Sapkal, Ganesh Kapre, Ajit Karne, Nilesh Katkar, Shivaji Bhise, Swapnil Mane, Ketan Shinde, Rohit Nikam, Sachin Sasane, Prithviraj Jadhav, Pravin Pawar, Shivaji Gurav and officials from Military Intelligence.

In the recent past, the seamless inter-agency coordination and jointness amongst the security agencies have resulted in unearthing many such cases in Pune, Ahmednagar, Satara, Kolhapur and other districts of Maharashtra.
