Leading industrialist of the country exhorted the entry of private players for disposal of waste management to make Pune “ The Smart City “

The leading industrialist of the country Padmshree Arun Firodia suggested that waste disposal or waste management should be given to the private parties which will definitely provide employment to the youth and no one can prevent they city of Pune to become “ The Smart city ” within a time period of three years . While expressing this , he also touched upon his serious concern of traffic congestion of city which pose the biggest challenge.

Firodia was speaking in a function organized by theInstitution of Engineers (India) Pune centre on the occasion of commencement of Diamond Jubilee celebrations. He said that Waste disposal or waste management refers to managing the waste from its generation to final disposal. This includes collection, transportation, processing, re-cycling and final disposal of waste along with monitoring, regulation and control.

He further said that while urban regions may use advanced machines and latest technology to manage the waste, rural areas may be more dependent upon the manual labour. Residential areas may utilize safe and simple process whereas industries may utilize giant machines in order to control the factory waste products, said the towering personality of the country

Firodia expressed the serious concern about the fast growing population of Pune district jurisdiction and said that presently the city population is more than 45 lakh and it will reach around one crore within a few years, under such a scenario , decongestion of Pune is the exigent need of the hour.

Speking about the project of ring road along with the metro connectivity , Pune which could be instrumental in decongesting the city, Mr Firodia strongly suggested that the new Green suburbs, like educational Intuitions and entertainment hubs be developed along the ring road. Consequently, the further incoming population will choose those satellite cities for their residence.

He said until a few decades ago Pune city was known for its beautiful & healthy non polluted environment, but now Pune is known as the capital of dengue and chikungunya, he criticized.

Firodia’s talk was preceed by a presentation by Dr. Rajendra Jagtap, CEO – Pune Smart City Co. He said Pune Metro will have a major impact on the infracture development of the city. The plan conceived ten years ago, but now it will come to reality soon . Mr. Jagtap through a PPT brought out the salient and technical features of smart city projects.

Mr Jagtap expressed his confidence that city of Pune will have entire new – looks soon and imerge as an identity of “5G” in the field of science and technology.
