Asian Games 2023 – India Celebrates Record-Breaking Victory at Asian Games in Hangzhou, China: 20 Golds and 85 Medals

Hangzhou, 5th October 2023 – India is basking in the glory of an outstanding performance at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, as the nation clinches its 20th gold medal, setting a record in the process. With an overall medal count of 85, the Indian contingent continues to make its mark on this international sporting stage.

India’s prowess in wrestling shone brightly as Antim Panghal secured a bronze medal in the fiercely competitive 53 kg women’s wrestling category. Panghal’s victory came when she defeated Bat-Ochiryn Bolortuyaa of Mongolia, marking a significant achievement for Indian women in sports.

In a thrilling squash men’s singles match, Saurav Ghoshal displayed exemplary skill and determination to clinch the silver medal. He gave his all but narrowly missed the gold, facing off against Eain Yow Ng of Malaysia.

Indian archers delivered a standout performance as the men’s compound archery team secured a coveted gold medal. Ojas Pravin Deotale, Prathamesh Samadhan Jawkar, and Abhishek Verma combined their talents to achieve this remarkable feat.

In badminton, HS Pranoy advanced to the semi-finals, keeping the Indian hopes alive in the sport. However, it was a day of mixed fortunes as PV Sindhu, who had been a medal favourite, faced disappointment in the quarterfinals, losing to China’s He Bingjiao. Despite high expectations, Sindhu fell short of the mark on this occasion.
