Pune, 15th April 2023: On Thursday (April 13), Asad Ahmed, the son of Uttar Pradesh gangster Atiq Ahmed, and his accomplice Ghulam were killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh police in Jhansi.
A few months ago, Asad was found to have stayed in Pune and Nashik, prompting an investigation by the Pune Police after receiving information that the gangster Abu Salem’s accomplices had helped Asad and his accomplice.
According to police, Asad and Ghulam were wanted for the murder of Uttar Pradesh MLA Raju Pal’s main witness, Umesh Pal. After the murder in 2005, Umesh Pal had been giving testimony to the Uttar Pradesh Police. He was shot dead near his house in Prayagraj on February 24 this year. Since then, Asad and Ghulam were on the run. Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed had been attempting to help Asad evade the police. During the investigation, it was discovered that Ashraf had assisted Asad and Ghulam in staying in Pune and Nashik with the help of some members of the Abu Salem gang.
Asad and Ghulam had been staying in Kanpur, Noida, and Delhi to avoid the police, but a team of Uttar Pradesh Police had been on their trail. It was revealed that Atiq Ahmed had arranged for Asad and Ghulam to stay in Nashik and Pune with the assistance of some members of the Salem gang. Atiq and Abu Salem are known to be friends.
The Pune Police are now investigating the matter, and the Crime Branch has stated that they will request information from the Uttar Pradesh Police.
