Auto Driver Fined Rs 2,500 for Talking on Phone While Driving After Passenger Shares Photo

Mumbai , 7th June 2025: In a swift response to a passenger’s complaint, the Andheri Regional Transport Office (RTO) fined an autorickshaw driver ₹2,500 for using his mobile phone during a video call while driving. The action was taken after a commuter submitted photographic evidence of the incident involving auto MH 02 GL 0565.
The accused driver, Mohammad Anarkali Haque, was caught on camera using his phone while transporting passengers—a violation that has become increasingly common in Mumbai’s suburbs. Acting on the complaint, Traffic Inspector Jitendra Londhe promptly imposed a fine under relevant motor vehicle laws.
Auto drivers frequently flouting traffic norms, especially by using mobile phones while driving, has raised safety concerns. Despite regular checks and drives by the Andheri RTO, many continue to ignore the rules.
“We thank the passenger for taking the initiative to report this violation with clear evidence. Such actions by citizens can go a long way in ensuring road safety,” said Gunwant Nikam, Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Andheri.
The transport department has urged commuters to report such violations by sending details—including photographs, date, time, location, and vehicle number—to the RTO’s WhatsApp helpline: 9920240202.
The Andheri RTO has intensified enforcement an UKd has collected over ₹78 lakh in fines over the past month alone from taxis, autorickshaws, and other rule violators.
Nikam emphasized that stricter enforcement coupled with citizen participation can significantly curb such reckless behavior on the roads. He encouraged more people to come forward with evidence, stating, “If citizens take initiative, violators will be held accountable.”
