Aviation Fuel Theft: Pune Police Arrest 4 Persons, Recover 8 Tankers Worth Rs 2.25 Crore

Hadapsar, 9th April 2023: The officials from the Hadapsar police station under the Pune city police have busted a gang that was engaged in the theft of aviation fuel meant for aircraft. The cops have seized eight tankers worth Rs. 2.25 Crore.

Senior Police Inspector Arvind Gokule, in-charge of the Hadapsar police station, said that the action was taken based on a tip-off received by policeman Manoj Survase of the detection branch yesterday. A raid was conducted at 6.30 am at Lakshmi Colony, Gajanan Mitra Mandal, 15 No. Chowk in Hadapsar.

“The tankers were supposed to be going to the Shirdi airport from Vashi Navi Mumbai and were locked and sealed by the company to prevent any fuel from being taken out during the journey. However, some individuals were illegally stealing fuel tankers belonging to Hindustan Petroleum Company Limited (HPCL), Indian Oil, and Reliance,” he added.

According to the police, at the time of the raid, the accused were stealing fuel from two HPCL company tankers. The police have seized 14 plastic cans filled with fuel, which were found at the site.

A case has been registered at the Hadapsar police station under Section 3, 7 of the Essential Commodities Act 1955 with Section-379, 285, 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The accused have been identified as Sunil Kumar Pranath Yadav (24), Dajiram Laxman Kalel (37), Sachin Ramdas Tambe (40), and Shastri Kavlu Saroj (47), all residents of Hadapsar. They told police that the theft was being done on the instructions of Sunil Ramdas Tambe (38) of Hadapsar, who is into the transport business.

Further investigation is being done by the Social Security Cell of the Crime Branch.

The commendable action was taken under the guidance of Police Commissioner Retesh Kumaarr, Joint Commissioner Sandeep Karnik, Additional Commissioner of Police (East region) Ranjan Kumar Sharma, DCP (Zone 5) Vikrant Deshmukh, and ACP (Hadapsar division) Bajrang Desai.

The team included Senior Police Inspector Arvind Gokule, Police Inspector (Crime) Digambar Shinde, Police Inspector (Crime) Vishwas Dagle, API Vijay Kumar Shinde, PSI Avinash Shinde, and police personnel Sushil Lonkar, Sandeep Rathod, Sachin Jadhav, Manoj Suravase, Amol Danke, Bhagwan Hambarde, Anirudh Sonawane, Rashid Sheikh, Shahid Sheikh, Prashant Dudhal, Prashant Tonpe, Atul Pandharkar, Ajit Madane, Chandrakant Rejitwad, and Kundlik Keskar.
