Pune: 8th December: The standard of education has largely remained off the mark for a long time. To address this issue through quality improvement and school infrastructure development to cater to all sections of the society, Bajaj Education Initiative – a Bajaj Auto CSR programme – implemented by Jankidevi Bajaj Gram Vikas Sanstha (JBGVS), has been functioning in Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area for the past few months. The latest program on anvil is a unique exhibition of students’ school projects, followed by career guidance and personality development sessions in the coming period.

School projects exhibition
Under Bajaj Education Initiative (BEI), an exhibition of 5th to 7th standard students’ school projects will be organized on 10th December from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm at Bajaj Auto Cultural Hall, Akurdi. Students, teachers and parents of participating schools will be able to visit the exhibition. The objective is to help underprivileged students better understand various subjects; provide an opportunity to display their creativity and develop presentation skills. Students have been encouraged to work on projects that depict relevant issues of today that affect their life and the society. No specific topics have been given. Project submissions can be in any form including drama, presentation, speech, street play or physical model. This program will help the students to grasp various subjects in a more practical way, along with out of the box solutions in a creative format.

Future plans
BEI plans to shortly conduct career guidance and personality development sessions for PCMC students. By March 2018, BEI is expected to reach 250 Marathi, English and Urdu medium schools, beyond PCMC, into Pune Municipal Corporation limits. The objective is to reach out to students, teachers and parents from municipal and underprivileged schools to impart knowledge of key subjects, improve teaching ability and generate motivation. An assessment system with third party experts for students of 3rd, 6th and 8th standard is also in the pipeline, particularly for subjects like Maths and English. Remedial measures will also be undertaken for students who are lagging behind.

Successful scholarship exam training
As a part of BEI, a unique training program for teachers coaching students for 5th standard scholarship exam was conducted. Since the format of the scholarship exam has been recently modified, there was a need to train teachers on the new trends so that they can impart the same to their students. This training at the JBGVS Samaj Seva Kendra (SSK) in Akurdi on 3rd December was attended by 39 teachers, under the guidance of BEI advisor Dr Chitra Sohoni. Veteran scholarship exam teachers like Ms Dhanashree Phadnis, Ms Vaishali Naik and Ms Veena Bhate were the resource persons. The proof of the pudding lies in eating! Commenting on her experience in the training program, Ms Sujata Sali, a teacher from Chinchwad said, “All the resource persons for language, maths and analytical ability provided interesting and to-the-point guidance.”
