Bajrang Dal Demands Removal of Aurangzeb’s Tomb, Plans Statewide Protests
Pune, 15th March 2025: The Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) have demanded the immediate removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), claiming it symbolizes slavery, atrocities, and the oppression of Hindus. Warning of mass protests, the organizations announced a statewide movement outside tehsildar and district collector offices across Maharashtra.
Addressing a press conference, VHP Provincial Minister Kishor Chavan stated, “Aurangzeb’s tomb is a reminder of betrayal, hatred, and the persecution of Hindus. His actions, from killing his own brothers to imprisoning his father, destroying temples, and torturing Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj for forty days, are a testament to his cruelty. Keeping his tomb intact only glorifies his atrocities. The Maharashtra government must remove it immediately.”
Chavan further warned that if the government fails to act, “the self-respecting Hindu community will take to the streets, protest, organize marches, and, if necessary, remove the tomb themselves.”
Bajrang Dal Provincial Convenor Nitin Mahajan echoed similar sentiments, stating that Aurangzeb’s ideology continues to influence extremist elements even today. “His followers still try to impose Sharia law in India, and some even dream of making India an Islamic nation by 2047. Such dangerous ideologies are fueled by the presence of his tomb, which must be removed.”
The organizations announced a protest in Pune on Monday, March 17, 2025 (Phalgun Krishna Tritiya, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti) at 11:30 AM outside the district collector’s office. A memorandum demanding the tomb’s removal will be submitted to the Chief Minister.
