Balance and harmony are key words in life: Sonal Mansingh
Pune, 21st August 2026: D Y Patil International University (DYPIU), Pune, welcomed its new batch of students with Diksharambh – Induction Programme 2026–27, aimed at introducing students to the university’s academic environment, values and vision for higher education.
The programme featured an inspiring address by Padma Vibhushan awardee, renowned classical dancer and former Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Sonal Mansingh. Addressing the students, she observed that it is rare for families to readily support their children in pursuing a career as an artist. Emphasising the importance of balance and harmony in life, she said that all-round development is possible only when there is “perfect harmony and unison.”
Sharing experiences from her own life, Mansingh said that her journey had not been easy, but she never considered an alternative path. Encouraging students to pursue their passions with dedication, she said that whatever one does should have rasa. She also urged students to remain lifelong learners.
Mansingh further emphasised the importance of humanities in higher education, observing that universities should offer courses in the humanities alongside STEM programmes.
Dr Sudhir Mehta, Founder and Chairman, EKA Mobility, Pune, encouraged students to reflect on the kind of person they aspire to become. He asked them whether they wanted to be people with “fire in the belly” and a strong determination to achieve their goals. Highlighting the opportunities available to young people, he said that there had never been a better time to be young in India. He also emphasised the rich legacy of the D Y Patil Group in the field of education.
Welcoming the students and guests, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Manish Bhalla said that DYPIU places strong emphasis on innovation and incubation. He said the university seeks to prepare students not only to become job seekers but also job creators. Highlighting the pioneering contribution of the D Y Patil Group to higher education in India, he outlined some of the university’s recent achievements.
He informed the gathering that the university is starting the School of Legal Studies, Governance and Public Policy from the current academic year. He also announced plans to introduce Hotel Management and Catering Technology from the next academic year.
Shri Tejas Patil, Trustee, DYP Pratishthan, said that DYPIU provides students with a globally connected learning environment. He emphasised that the university’s approach goes beyond traditional teaching and focuses on innovative teaching and learning practices.
The programme was also attended by the Deans of the Faculties of Non-Engineering and Engineering, along with Prof. Yogesh D. Brahmankar, Adviser, CIIE, DYPIU, among other university officials, faculty members and guests.
