Bangladesh sets record for highest ODI score in 183-run win over Ireland
New Delhi, 18th March 2023: Bangladesh secured a resounding victory against Ireland in the first ODI, winning by a staggering 183 runs. This victory is Bangladesh’s largest win in terms of runs in ODI history.
Bangladesh dominated the match, scoring an impressive 338 runs while batting first, setting a massive target for Ireland. Ireland could only manage 155 runs before being bowled out in just 30.5 overs.
Shakib Al Hasan and Tauheed Hriday were the standout performers for Bangladesh, with both players scoring the most runs for the team. Shakib scored 93 runs in 89 balls, while Hriday scored an impressive 92 runs on his ODI debut. The two players shared a 135-run partnership for the fourth wicket, helping Bangladesh recover from early setbacks and set a challenging target.
Notably, this is the biggest score by any Bangladesh batsman on ODI debut, surpassing Nasir Hussain’s 63 runs scored in 2011. However, Shakib Al Hasan has been dismissed in the nervous nineties in ODIs for the fourth time.
Bangladesh’s victory against Ireland comes after their recent win against England in the T20 series. The team had also defeated India in the domestic ODI series. The victory against Ireland is a boost for Bangladesh’s confidence, and they will aim to continue their winning streak in the upcoming matches.
