Mumbai, 15th December 2023: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), India’s cricket governing body, has reportedly decided to retire legendary player Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s iconic No. 7 jersey in tribute to the former captain’s significant contribution to the sport. As reported by Indian Express, the decision means that no player, including debutants, will be assigned the No. 7 jersey in the Indian National Cricket Team.

Although MS Dhoni retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020, he remains active in franchise cricket and is set to lead the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni, India’s World Cup-winning captain, led the team to historic victories in the inaugural T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup.

This move follows a similar decision in 2017 when the BCCI officially retired the No. 10 jersey worn by batting legend Sachin Tendulkar. The reported decision to retire Dhoni’s No. 7 jersey reflects the board’s acknowledgement of his lasting impact on Indian cricket.
