Pune, 10th September 2025: Chatushrungi police have booked a young man from Pune under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after it was revealed that he sexually assaulted a 17-year-old minor girl with whom he had developed a friendship while playing the online game PUBG.

According to police, the minor girl, hailing from a well-educated family in Pune, had become increasingly active on social media due to neglect at home. In May 2024, she downloaded the PUBG game and soon came into contact with the accused, identified as Prayan Singha. Their online friendship gradually deepened, moving from in-game conversations to WhatsApp chats and calls, eventually turning into a romantic relationship.

Investigators said that Singha later visited Pune and convinced the girl to accompany him to his native village, Nagar Kata in West Bengal. After the girl went missing, her family lodged a complaint, following which police traced her location to West Bengal. A team comprising Sub-Inspector Manisha Jadhav, woman constable Kamble, and Gaikwad traveled to the village, where they searched for three days before locating the accused and rescuing the minor. She was subsequently handed over to her family.

During her statement, the minor girl alleged that she had been sexually assaulted by Singha. Based on this, police added relevant sections of the POCSO Act to the case initially registered for abduction. The accused is currently in custody and under interrogation.
