Pune, 28th July 2025: The iconic Baba Bhide Bridge in Pune’s Deccan area has been submerged due to increased water discharge from the Khadakwasla Dam, following continuous heavy rainfall in Pune and surrounding regions over the past two to three days.

The irrigation department has escalated the water release to 25,000 cusecs, causing the water level of the Mutha River to rise significantly. As a result, the construction work by Pune Metro on Bhide Bridge has been temporarily halted, and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a high alert for residents living near the riverbanks, urging them to remain vigilant and avoid low-lying areas.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a broader weather forecast for the region:

Konkan and Goa: Widespread rainfall is expected between July 28 and August 2, with heavy to very heavy rain in isolated areas and strong winds along the coastline.

Madhya Maharashtra: Rainfall is likely in many parts of the region.

Marathwada: Rain is expected in isolated areas.
Vidarbha: Most parts are likely to receive rainfall, with heavy showers predicted in some pockets.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, and citizens are advised to follow official updates and avoid venturing near rivers or submerged roads.
