Pune, 8th December 2022: The Pune district administration is following up with the home and transport department of Maharashtra state regarding the ban on the bike taxi app operating illegally in the state.

Collector Rajesh Deshmukh has appealed to the autorickshaw drivers not to hold a protest on 12th December to avoid inconvenience to the citizens and to maintain the law and order situation in the district.

In the wake of the agitation by the autorickshaw drivers, Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil had given instructions to form a committee under the chairmanship of the District Collector to consider the demands of the rickshaw drivers.

Accordingly, the committee consisting of the Regional Transport Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber Branch), Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), and Deputy Regional Transport Officer has instructed the police to follow up on the action on the bike taxi app in a meeting held on Wednesday (7th December).

The district administration has always been sympathetic to the demands of rickshaw drivers. A special campaign is also being implemented by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to prevent illegal transport business in the district. Cases have also been filed against the Rapido company that runs the illegal bike taxi app.

The said action is ongoing, and the matter of banning the app is being followed up with the State Cyber Branch through the Deputy Commissioner of Police. Considering all these circumstances, it would not be advisable for rickshaw drivers to protest. Such agitation is likely to cause more inconvenience to the citizens, the collector said.

He informed, “Rickshaw drivers have always taken a stand to cooperate with the administration. Apart from this, the administration takes sensitive decisions regarding the problems of the rickshaw drivers. The Guardian minister himself has also given instructions to the administration to solve their problems. The district administration is also following up with the home and transport department regarding banning the bike taxi app.”

Considering this, Deshmukh has appealed that the rickshaw drivers should not protest and cooperate with the administration this time as well.
