Pune, 8th June 2023: Muralidhar Mohol, Pune’s former mayor and Maharashtra state general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been appointed as the party’s Chief Election Officer for the Pune Lok Sabha constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

As the Mahavikas Aghadi alliance evaluates the Lok Sabha constituencies in preparation for the upcoming elections, meetings have taken place among the Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and Thackeray group in Mumbai and Pune. A joint meeting involving these parties will be held to discuss seat allocation in the near future.

The BJP has announced the list of election chiefs for all 48 Lok Sabha constituencies and 288 assembly constituencies in the state, as they will be forming an alliance with the Shinde group for the 2024 Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

The Pune Lok Sabha seat is currently vacant following the demise of MP Girish Bapat. While it remains unclear whether a by-election will be held, there is speculation surrounding Swarda Bapat, a member of the Bapat family, as a potential candidate for the Lok Sabha election. Other interested individuals include Muralidhar Mohol, Jagdish Mulik, MLA Siddharth Shirole, Dheeraj Ghate, and Medha Kulkarni.

Just last week, BJP’s Maharashtra state vice president Amar Sable was appointed as the in-charge of the Pune Lok Sabha. Against this backdrop, Muralidhar Mohol’s new responsibility is deemed significant.

The former MLAs or candidates who contested previous elections and the Speaker of the Assembly have been entrusted with the responsibility of the eight Lok Sabha constituencies within the city.

The following individuals have been appointed as in-charges for specific constituencies: BJP city president Jagdish Mulik for Vadgaon Sheri, Datta Khade for Shivajinagar, Sachin More for Khadakwasla, Hemant Rasane for Kasba Constituency, Puneet Joshi for Kothrud, Yogesh Tilekar for Hadapsar, Jitendra Polekar for Parvati, and Ajinkya Walekar for Pune Cantonment.
