Yerawada, 10th March 2025: Two young men who caused a public nuisance in Pune’s Yerawada area were found to have consumed drugs, according to a police investigation. The duo, after partying at a high-end pub in Koregaon Park, stopped their luxury car in the middle of the road at Shastrinagar Chowk and engaged in obscene acts. The police have retrieved CCTV footage from the pub to verify their activities.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Gaurav Manoj Ahuja (25), a resident of Sathe Colony, Tilak Road, and Bhagyesh Prakash Oswal (22), from Pride Heights Society, Market Yard. They have been booked under various charges, including creating a public nuisance, indecent behavior in a public place, obstructing traffic under the Motor Vehicles Act, and violating liquor prohibition laws. The complaint was filed by Police Constable Ganesh Thopte (36) at the Yerwada Police Station.

The incident took place on Saturday, 8th March, around 7.30 am at Shastrinagar Chowk. A video of Gaurav Ahuja’s actions went viral on social media, prompting the police to register a case against both individuals. Bhagyesh Oswal was arrested on Saturday evening, while Gaurav Ahuja surrendered at a police station in Karad before being taken into custody by Yerwada Police.

During their court appearance on Sunday, police stated that CCTV footage confirmed the accused had consumed drugs before committing the offense. When interrogated, both individuals were uncooperative and provided misleading answers. Prosecutor Sunita Dange argued for their police custody, citing the need to investigate where they obtained the drugs or alcohol, who assisted them in fleeing, and whether they had any accomplices. Defense lawyers Pushkar Durge and Sunil Rampure represented the accused. After hearing both sides, Magistrate NS Bari remanded them to police custody until Monday.

Additionally, police informed the court that Gaurav Ahuja has a criminal background and is already facing cases at Vimannagar Police Station for extortion, issuing death threats, and offenses under Maharashtra’s Gambling Prohibition Act.

Before his arrest, Ahuja uploaded a video on social media, apologizing for his actions and pleading for another chance. He assured that he would surrender at Yerwada Police Station within eight hours. However, after going into hiding in Kolhapur, he abandoned his luxury car outside the city and attempted to hire another vehicle from a rickshaw driver. Eventually, he asked the vechile to turn towards Pune and asked to record his apology video.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Himmat Jadhav confirmed that after a medical examination, Ahuja was formally arrested early Sunday morning and is now in police custody.
