Bombay High Court Orders CBI To Probe Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh
Mumbai, 5th April 2021: Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, facing corruption charges, has received a shock from the Bombay High Court.
The High Court has ordered the Central Bureau of India (CBI) to conduct a preliminary inquiry against the state Home Minister. The High Court has ordered an immediate preliminary inquiry into the allegations leveled against him by the former Commissioner of Mumbai Police Param Bir Singh. The court has given 15 days to the investigating agency for this entire process.
The court has given this order while hearing the petition filed on behalf of the advocate Jayashree Patil. Along with this, the court has also said that Anil Deshmukh is the home minister of the state. In such a situation, there is little chance of a fair investigation against him by the Maharashtra Police.
The Bombay High Court has said that it will make a decision on whether or not to register an FIR against Anil Deshmukh based on the findings of the initial investigation by the CBI. Former Mumbai Police Commissioner had written a letter to CM Uddhav Thackeray alleging that Anil Deshmukh had asked Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Vaze to recover Rs 100 crore ‘hafta’ from Mumbai every month.
Vaze is currently arrested by the NIA in connection with the explosive-laden car found outside Mukesh Ambani’s house.
Former CM Devendra Fadnavis, who is the Opposition Leader, said that the CBI investigation will reveal the whole truth. He also asked Home Minister Anil Deshmukh to resign from the post till the investigation continues.
