Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh Resigns After High Court Orders CBI To Investigate Rs 100 Crore Hafta Racket

Mumbai, 5 April 2021: Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, who has been embroiled in controversy over serious allegations made by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, has resigned.

Singh has accused Deshmukh of setting a target of Rs 100 crore ‘Hafta Vasooli’ from restaurant and bars in Mumbai.

Today Bombay High Court ordered an inquiry by the CBI. Deshmukh met NCP President Sharad Pawar and briefed him. After that, he will now submit his resignation to the Chief Minister. State Minorities Minister Nawab Malik informed this.

“Following the order of the High Court, a meeting was held at the residence of NCP President Sharad Pawar. Anil Deshmukh was also present at the meeting. Deshmukh is now going to submit his resignation letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray”, said Nawab Malik, a spokesperson for the NCP and the state’s minority minister.
