Pimpri Chinchwad, 30th December 2021: Bhushan Tarak, an Ultra Runner from Pimpri Chinchwad Runners Club, has finished the 160 km Border Run in Suvarnanagari, Jaisalmer, ahead of time.

He has completed the race in 27 hours and 39 minutes. Every year, a group called ‘The Hell Race’ organises a ‘Border Run’ in which runners from various cities across India takes part.

Bhushan had participated in the race in order to pay tribute to the nation’s soldiers by racing on the same battleground where the national festival of India’s freedom and the 1971 war between India and Pakistan took place 50 years ago.

The 160 km race began on December 18th -19th at Indira Gandhi Stadium in the golden city of Jaisalmer and ended near the Pakistan border at Longewala. This year the racing distance differed from 50 kilometres, 100 kilometres and 161 kilometres long.

The race was more challenging for the runners this time as they had to run for 28 long hours at a stretch under harsh situations such as the sweltering day and the cold of the night. All the participants had to cover nearly 10 kilometres to get water and other essential supplies. Also, there was a tough condition for the disqualification that there should be no one else to help them out in getting these supplies.

Bhushan said, “running through the desert on both the sides for the first time was a ‘once in a lifetime event for the runners. The night’s broken stars as well as the smooth racing roadways, put your mind and body completely to the test.”
