Pune, 9th May 2025: Pune Police have issued a crucial directive regarding the use of bright beam and laser lights, particularly near Pune International Airport. As per orders from Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma, the Special Branch has prohibited the use of such lights within a 15-kilometre radius of the airfield for the next 60 days.

JCP Sharma explained that Pune International Airport in Lohgaon handles aircraft from various commercial airlines as well as the Indian Air Force. During nighttime operations, specific lighting from the runway and Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower is used to guide aircraft. However, during events and public programs in Pune, especially in Lohgaon and surrounding areas, bright beam and laser lights are often used, which could interfere with flight operations and pose a safety hazard.

To prevent any potential distractions or accidents, the use of these lights has been banned for a period of 60 days starting today. Violations of this order will lead to legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for disobedience to orders issued by public servants, JCP Sharma stated.
