New Delhi, July 11, 2020: Nepal has cancelled the broadcast of all Indian news channels except Doordarshan. No official order has been issued regarding the ban on news channels.

News agency ANI quoted Mega Max TV operator Dhruba Sharma saying, “We have turned off the broadcast signals for Indian news channels from this evening.”

This move was initiated hours after a statement was given by Narayan Kaji Shrestha, the former Deputy Prime Minister and Spokesperson of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) to the Nepalese media. He said, “The baseless propaganda by the Indian media against our (Nepal) government and Prime Minister should stop. It has crossed all limits and it is getting too much. Stop with this nonsense.”

Bishnu Ramal, Current Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister of Nepal KP Sharma Oli tweeted, “The news stories and comments coming from the Indian media against the Government and Prime Minister of Nepal are highly objectionable thus condemnable. Such reports do not care about the basic ethics of journalism.”

The tensions between India and Nepal arose after Nepal issued a new map including Indian territories in their map.
