Pune, July 11, 2020: After the relaxation in lockdown, the movement of people has increased. People are now allowed to go out on two-wheelers for essential reasons. But this relaxation in lockdown comes with new rules and regulations. Masks are compulsory in public and only one person is allowed on a two-wheeler.

However, many citizens are becoming more relaxed and flouting rules and regulations set by the administration. The number of people roaming on the streets without proper reason has increased. Many citizens are also going out without masks which is mandatory in public places amidst rising Covid-19 cases. Pune police on Wednesday caught 536 people for not wearing masks and 445 were booked for going out without any proper reason.

Traffic cops in the city have now decided to catch these offenders by using CCTV cameras. In this way, maximum offenders disregarding rules and regulations will be caught. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has also decided to help cops by wielding their CCTV cameras which were set for the Smart City initiative.

Ravindra Shisve, joint commissioner of police (CP) told Pune Mirror newspaper that they are planning to use CCTV cameras to catch people roaming without masks or riding double or triple-seat while going out. To stop unnecessary movement in containment and non-containment zones, this action is necessary.”

Pune Police said that they have set up 197 checkpoints to monitor the movement of people and ensure whether all rules and regulations are being followed.
