Pune, 30th May 2024: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Pune has formally communicated with the Bengaluru RTO to cancel the temporary registration of a Porsche Taycan. This vehicle was involved in a tragic accident that resulted in the death of two techies, driven by a 17-year-old boy in the early hours of May 19.

The electric luxury sports sedan, a Porsche Taycan, was imported in March by a dealer in Bengaluru and sent to Maharashtra on a temporary registration. During the registration process at the Pune RTO, the car owner was required to pay a fee of ₹1,758 and complete the necessary paperwork. Due to non-payment of this fee, the permanent registration was not approved, according to a senior RTO official who spoke to Punekar News.

Pune RTO in-charge Sanjeev Bhor elaborated on the situation, stating, “There is a provision in the Motor Vehicles Act that if such an accident occurs with a minor driving, the registration certificate can be revoked for 12 months. We issued a notice on May 23 to the registered user of the car. Today, we have formally communicated with the Bengaluru RTO to cancel the temporary registration of the car, as it was initially registered in Bengaluru. The purpose of the temporary registration was to facilitate the movement of the car from Bengaluru to Pune. However, driving a car on the road without proper registration is illegal.”
