Cases Of Lumpy Skin Disease Confirmed In Pune, District Declared As ‘Containment Zone’

Pune 30th August 2023: The District Collector of Pune Dr Rajesh Deshmukh has imposed restrictions on transport of animals in seven talukas after cases of lumpy skin disease were confirmed among animals. The restrictions also include mandatory vaccination of animals while organising Bullock Cart Racing, exhibition of animals etc. in these areas.

According to officials, the sample reports of animals sent from Shirur, Daund, Khed, Ambegaon, Haveli, Purandar and Mulshi have come positive and lumpy skin disease has been confirmed in the animals here. An epicenter has been observed in almost every taluka of the district for this disease. Following this, the district collector has declared the complete district as ‘containment zone’ while imposing restrictions.

According to officials, it is mandatory to carry a preventive vaccination certificate of animals vaccinated at least 28 days before while transporting them from one place to another. No material including feed, skin of the dead animal etc. is allowed to be transported from the areas where confirmed cases of the disease are reported. It is mandatory to produce the vaccination certificate of animals vaccinated at least 28 days before while selling or purchasing them in the market.
