New Delhi, 8th November 2021: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has formally sought the US’s help in recovering deleted data from late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s email and social media accounts.

The CBI wants to investigate whether anything related to 14 June 2020 i.e., the day when Sushant Singh was found dead in his house ever took place.

Sources have said that this information has been sought by the CBI from Google and Facebook based in California under the MLAT i.e., Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty. All the information of deleted emails and chats has been sought from both companies.

There is an MLAT between India and the US under which both sides can seek information in the investigation of domestic matters. In India, the Ministry of Home Affairs is the centre for sending or receiving any information under MLAT, while in America such information is received from the Attorney General’s office.

An officer on condition of anonymity said, “We do not want to leave any aspect untouched before coming to the conclusion of the case. We would like to know if there are any such deleted chats or posts which may be helpful in this case.’

This means that it may take some more time to complete the investigation of the Sushant Singh Rajput case as it takes a long time to get information under MLAT. Sushant Singh’s family’s lawyer Vikas Singh has appreciated the CBI’s effort and said that he is not surprised by this as the agency wants to investigate every aspect. He said that there are many mysteries in the Sushant case as there is no witness to it.

Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai home on June 14 last year. Sushant’s father KK Singh had lodged a complaint with the Patna Police against Rhea Chakraborty, her brother, and her parents.

After the order of the Supreme Court, the CBI took over the investigation of this case in August 2020. Enforcement Directorate and NCB are also involved in the investigation of this case.
