CBSE Adopts Digital Evaluation for Board Exams to Ensure Quicker, More Accurate Results
New Delhi, 18th August 2025: In a progressive step toward digitizing the board examination process, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has approved the appointment of a qualified agency to carry out digital assessment of students’ answer sheets. This initiative is expected to streamline the evaluation process, reduce result declaration time, and improve overall accuracy and transparency.
According to board officials, the digital evaluation system involves an estimated investment of ₹28 crore and is designed to deliver quicker, more reliable results for students.
CBSE had previously introduced digital evaluation in a limited capacity—starting with select Class 10 subjects in 2014, followed by Class 12 in 2015. However, these efforts remained pilot in nature. With the recent approval from the CBSE Governing Body, the board is now planning a broader, phased rollout of on-screen marking for all subjects, contingent upon the success of upcoming pilot tests.
The trial phase will be conducted through several CBSE regional offices, where a few subjects will undergo digital evaluation. Based on the outcome, the board will gradually extend the system to other subjects and regions.
Officials highlighted that the digital evaluation process requires stringent confidentiality and secure handling of answer scripts. Hence, only agencies with prior experience in managing such tasks for central or state-level bodies will be eligible to participate. The system aims to reduce manual errors and bolster the security of the evaluation process.
This development aligns with CBSE’s larger goal of integrating technology into academic operations, aiming to enhance efficiency and benefit the vast student population across India.
