Pune: Encroachment Clearance Drive in Chakan to Begin September 1, Aimed at Reducing Traffic Jams
Chakan, 18th August 2025: To address the growing traffic chaos in Chakan and its surrounding industrial belts, authorities have announced a coordinated encroachment removal campaign beginning September 1. The initiative, led by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) along with the Chakan Municipal Council and other government bodies, will target major traffic-prone stretches, including the Pune–Nashik Highway, Chakan–Talegaon Road, and Chakan–Shikrapur Road.
Government Push for Decongestion
Confirming the plan, PMRDA Commissioner Yogesh Mhase said the drive aims to ease congestion across crucial industrial corridors that serve thousands of daily commuters. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who recently inspected the area, instructed officials to expedite road-widening works and ensure smoother traffic flow.
Pawar also announced that tenders for the Pune–Nashik Highway expansion will be floated on September 25. The government has resolved to complete the remaining 7% of land acquisition necessary for the project.
Stretches Identified for Encroachment Removal

Key points along Pune–Nashik Highway, including Moi Phata, Chimbli Phata, Berge Vasti Phata, Kuruli Phata, MIDC Phata, Alandi Phata, and Mutkewadi Phata
Once cleared, these routes will undergo widening to streamline vehicular movement, particularly for industrial traffic entering and exiting the Chakan MIDC area.
Officials emphasized that PMRDA’s land acquisition board will oversee the remaining acquisition process to avoid delays. “The state is determined to provide long-term relief to commuters and industries in Chakan by implementing permanent traffic solutions,” a senior official assured.
