Centre Launches Cashless Treatment Scheme for Road Accident Victims

New Delhi, 6th May 2025: In a landmark move to enhance emergency medical care and road safety, the Central Government has launched the Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims Scheme, 2025. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued an official notification on Tuesday, marking the commencement of the scheme.
Effective from May 5, 2025, the scheme offers cashless medical treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh for individuals injured in road accidents. The benefit can be availed within seven days of the accident, and treatment must be sought at designated hospitals authorised by the government.
Aimed at reducing the financial burden on accident victims and ensuring timely care, the scheme also covers initial stabilisation costs for victims taken to non-designated hospitals, as outlined in the official guidelines.
Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had first announced the revised scheme in January 2025. Its implementation will be handled by the National Health Authority (NHA), in coordination with local police, hospitals, and State Health Agencies, to ensure smooth and effective execution.
