Chennai Businessman Comes To Pune For Meeting Woman Through Dating App, Gets Robbed Of Valuables Worth Rs 1.5 Lakh

Wakad, January 24, 2021: A 30-year-old businessman from Chennai has lodged a complaint with Pimpri Chinchwad police stating that he was robbed by a woman who he met through the dating app Bumble. He lost cash, mobile phone and ornaments – a total worth Rs 1.5 lakh.

Based on the complaint, Wakad police station has registered an FIR against the woman for offences under sections 328 (causing harm by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence) and 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The incident took place approximately between January 17th or 18th. He met the woman on the dating app and heard that she was in need of employment. He came to Pune and they booked a room at Hotel Sayaji on Pune-Bangalore highway bypass.

In his complaint, the businessman said the accused woman had spiked his drinks with sedatives following which he had lost consciousness. When he woke up around 5 am, he found his valuables missing along with the woman. The stolen valuables include a 30 gm gold chain worth Rs 90,000, an eight gm gold ring worth Rs 25,000, a mobile phone worth Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 cash.

After discussing with his friend, the businessman lodged a complaint with the police yesterday. Assistant police inspector TS Bhogam is further investigating the case.
