Pune, 26th December 2024: Christmas festivities brought the city to a standstill on Wednesday (25th December) night as massive traffic jams were reported in the central areas and the Camp area. Reportedly, citizens took to the streets after 10 pm to celebrate the Christmas, overwhelming the city’s roads and causing chaos.

Major roads such as Laxmi Road, Kumthekar Road, Kelkar Road, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road, Bajirao Road, Tilak Road, Riverbed Road, JM Road, and Ganeshkhind Road were heavily congested. The situation was no better in the Camp area, where Mahatma Gandhi Road and internal roads also witnessed gridlock.

Traffic police were deployed at key intersections, particularly in the Camp area, to manage the situation. However, the central parts of the city had fewer personnel on duty, leaving commuters stranded in the traffic as they struggled to reach their destinations.

The traffic jams were exacerbated by violations such as lane indiscipline, driving in the wrong direction on one-way streets, ignoring signals, and two-way traffic on narrow roads. The lack of adherence to traffic rules compounded the chaos, creating further delays.

Many citizens heading from central Pune to the Camp area for celebrations added to the congestion. Despite the efforts of the traffic police, the overwhelming volume of vehicles led to severe disruptions, leaving commuters frustrated and highlighting the city’s growing need for better traffic management during festive occasions.
