Citizens Set the Agenda: Accountability Takes Center Stage at Mohammadwadi-Undri ‘Know Your Candidate’ Meet
Pune, 7th January 2026: In a decisive move to prioritize civic issues over political rhetoric, the Mohammadwadi Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation (MURWDF) hosted a high-impact “Know Your Candidate” interactive session on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
Held at Ganga Glitz near Kad Nagar, the event marked a shift in the political narrative for the upcoming civic elections in Prabhag 41. Rather than simply listening to campaign promises, residents turned the tables by presenting aspiring leaders with a data-driven “Citizens’ Manifesto” and the results of a comprehensive resident survey.
A Unified Citizen Voice
The event was designed to foster direct, transparent, and accountable dialogue. Aspiring candidates and representatives from major political parties—including Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction), and the Indian National Congress—were in attendance.
While candidates shared their visions and priorities, the highlight of the event was the formal handover of the Citizens’ Charter. MURWDF representatives emphasized that the initiative was not about endorsing a specific party but about “empowering voters with information and creating accountability before elections, not after.”
The Citizens’ Manifesto: “Development Must Precede Permissions” The Foundation presented a specific “Charter Docket” to each party, outlining non-negotiable demands under the slogan: “We pay taxes. We demand dignity, infrastructure, and sustainability.”

Key demands flagged for “Immediate Action” included:
Water Security: Implementation of a 24×7 PMC pipeline connection to end reliance on tankers.
Road Infrastructure: Widening of roads and immediate repair of potholes to ensure safe movement for vehicles and pedestrians.
Traffic Management: Synchronized signals, the appointment of traffic wardens, and a flyover at Undri Chowk.
Cleanliness: An efficient, segregated waste management system.
Safety: Installation of streetlights and CCTV cameras, with a focus on the safety of women and children.
Environment: Immediate closure of polluting RMC plants and protection of local hills from excavation.
Encroachments: Removal of illegal constructions across the area.
Startling Survey Statistics
Supporting these demands was the “MURWDF Survey Insights,” which gathered responses from 5,768 residents. The data painted a stark picture of resident dissatisfaction:
Over 80% of residents described living conditions as “Unsatisfactory,” using terms like “Pathetic,” “Chaotic,” and “Neglected.”
97% of respondents listed Water & Drainage as a top concern.
95% flagged Roads & Footpaths as a critical issue.
88% cited Traffic & Parking as a major daily struggle.
Despite these frustrations, the survey noted a strong “Pride in Area” regarding green cover and community spirit, which residents are fighting to preserve.

The Way Forward
The event concluded with MURWDF reiterating its commitment to tracking the promises made by the candidates. The Foundation stated they would continue structured citizen-leader dialogues to ensure that the documented commitments remain central to the civic agenda of Ward 41.
“The residents strongly emphasized that development must precede permissions, and accountability must follow representation,” the Foundation noted in their press statement.
