Mumbai/Pune, 23rd December 2025: In a bid to win the confidence of locals ahead of the ambitious Purandar Airport project, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis personally met with villagers from the affected areas, assuring them of maximum compensation, rehabilitation measures, and development benefits. The proposed airport, expected to serve both passenger and cargo traffic, aims to transform Pune and its surrounding regions into a major industrial and logistical hub.

Speaking at the consultation, Fadnavis said, “Purandar Airport is vital for Maharashtra’s and Pune’s economic growth. It will facilitate industrial expansion and is expected to contribute at least two percent to the region’s GDP, while directly benefiting local residents through employment and development opportunities.”

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including former Minister Vijay Shivtare, ACS (Finance) O.P. Gupta, Transport Department ACS Sanjay Sethi, Principal Secretary, Industries Department P. Anbalagan, MIDC CEO P. Velrasu, and Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, along with representatives from the seven villages affected by the project.

Fadnavis assured the villagers that the state government would provide compensation exceeding the prevailing land rates, along with benefits under the Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) for the Purandar Aero City project. Children of affected farmers will receive priority employment opportunities, and skill development centers will train local youth for industry-specific jobs. Cases related to earlier protests will also be withdrawn.

“Rehabilitation remains our top priority. Additional measures are being planned for small and landless farmers, and this project will be a first-of-its-kind by offering alternative land along with monetary compensation,” the Chief Minister added.

The airport area will feature a grand statue of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, and previous encumbrances on acquired land will be resolved. Villagers will be recognised as key stakeholders, receiving special project-affected certificates. Rates for plantation trees will be finalised after consultation, and plans are underway to establish a dedicated authority for all project-affected citizens in Maharashtra.

CM Fadnavis emphasised that projects since 2014 have ensured no farmer becomes landless, prioritising public welfare. Drawing lessons from the Navi Mumbai Airport, he said the Purandar Airport would boost agriculture, trade, and industrial growth, directly benefiting local communities.

District Collector Jitendra Dudi provided updates on project progress, while village representatives shared their demands and suggestions, ensuring their voices are heard in shaping the development process.
