Cold Wave To Persist In Maharashtra Till 18th January

Pune, 16th January 2023: Mumbai, Konkan, Pune, and most other regions in Maharashtra have been covered in the hood as the cold wave intensified again in the northern states due to snowfall in the Himalayan region. The cold is likely to increase further in the next two-three days.

Due to the cold wave coming from the north, the minimum temperature of the entire state has dropped by two to three degrees below the average. Mumbai recorded the lowest temperature this season (13.9 degrees Celsius) on Sunday. Due to the drop in maximum temperature too, Mumbai was cold all day on Sunday. With the growing cold, the air quality in Mumbai also deteriorated. The air condition in many parts was in the extreme category.

The maximum and minimum temperatures in Mumbai were decreasing for the past few days. While Mumbai’s minimum temperature dipped below 15 degrees from Friday night, it dropped to 13 degrees on Sunday. North India has received a cold wave due to increased snowfall. So, the cold winds from the north are blowing towards the south. Due to this, the state has become stagnant. The minimum temperature has dropped in all parts of Vidarbha, including Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and North Maharashtra.

Mumbai, along with the entire Konkan, North Maharashtra, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad and some parts of the districts, will be under the cold wave till 18th January. After that, the weather experts predict that the minimum temperature will increase.

Air pollution has also increased. Due to this, Mumbai was surrounded by smog on Sunday. The air quality was recorded in the ‘poor’ category. The air category in the south and central Mumbai is in ‘poor’ condition as winds have slowed down. However, the air in Bandra-Kurla complex, Chembur, Andheri is ‘extremely bad’, according to the website ‘Safar’.
