Command Hospital Pune Performs Rare ERCP Procedure on Four-Year-Old, Youngest in Armed Forces

Pune, 16th April 2025: Command Hospital, Pune, the premier tertiary care centre of the Indian Armed Forces, has successfully performed an Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) on a four-year-old child—making the patient the youngest in the Armed Forces to undergo this complex procedure.
The child was diagnosed with Type I Choledochal Cyst and presented with Acute Severe Cholangitis, a life-threatening condition. A previous attempt at Percutaneous Transhepatic Biliary Drainage (PTBD) had failed.
Demonstrating advanced clinical expertise and seamless coordination, the Gastroenterology team, in collaboration with the Department of Anaesthesia, managed this challenging paediatric hepatobiliary case with high precision.
