Complete Mumbai-Pune Expressway’s Missing Link Project By September 2024: PWD Minister Dadaji Bhuse

Pune, 24th August 2023: Public Works Department Minister Dadaji Bhuse conducted an inspection of the ongoing work on the Khopoli to Kusgaon stretch of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway (Missing Link) project.

Accompanying the minister were Anil Kumar Gaikwad, Joint Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation, Chief Engineer Rajesh Patil, Superintending Engineer Satish Shravagi, Executive Engineer Ajit Patil, Deputy Engineer Vishal Bhoite, and other officials.

Minister Bhuse described the ‘Missing Link Project,’ spanning 13.3 km on the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway, as an ambitious undertaking by the state government. The project includes two tunnels measuring 1.67 km and 8.92 km in length respectively. Currently, approximately 75 to 80 percent of the project has been completed, and there is a concerted effort to finish the remaining work by September 2024.

The implementation of cutting-edge modern technology is a central focus to ensure the project’s safety standards. Throughout the project, expert guidance is being sought to ensure its successful execution. Notably, the missing link features the construction of a towering 180-meter bridge and an expansive tunnel, marking significant engineering milestones. The completion of this project is expected to alleviate traffic congestion in the Lonavala and Khandala areas, thereby saving commuters’ time and reducing fuel consumption.

The Maharashtra state government is committed to addressing traffic congestion by completing several vital roadways, including the Hindu Hrudayamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samriddhi Highway, the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway Missing Link Project, and the proposed Nagpur-Goa Highway. The vision is to interconnect all districts of the state through an extensive expressway network, as stated by the minister.

Prior to the inspection, a comprehensive review meeting was convened in Kusgaon. During this session, Patil provided a detailed overview of the Missing Link Project’s progress through a presentation. The presentation covered various aspects of the project, such as its dimensions, costs, route details, vehicle speed limits, traffic management strategies, safety protocols, water drainage solutions, work quality standards, and incorporation of modern technology.
