New Delhi, 23 August 2021: A committee constituted by the Union Home Ministry has said that the third wave of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) disease may reach its peak around October. It can affect children as severely as adults.

In its report submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the committee talks about the dire need for pediatric facilities including doctors, staff and equipment like ventilators and ambulances.

According to a report in The Times of India, the committee of experts was constituted under the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). In the report, experts also talked about prioritizing vaccination campaigns against the virus for children with other illnesses and children with special needs.

The country’s drug regulators have approved Zydus Cadila’s ZyCoV-D vaccine for children above the age of 12 years. This campaign is yet to start. Earlier, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had indicated that children may start receiving doses of the vaccine against the virus from September.

Zydus Cadila’s impact potential was 66.6 percent on about 28,000 volunteers. According to the information, this is the first plasma DNA vaccine to fight against coronavirus. In this, the genetic elements of the virus are used. They transmit information to DNA or RNA to make proteins and enhance the immune system. The Zydus Cadila vaccine has been developed in collaboration with the Department of Biotechnology. The creators of this vaccine had said in the month of July that this vaccine is very capable of fighting Covid-19.
