Pune, 1 August 2020: Considering the number of corona patients in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, the movement to set up three jumbo hospitals has gained momentum. A jumbo hospital will be set up on the grounds of SSPMS ground near RTO and at the College of Engineering Pune (COEP) ground. 1,600 beds will be available in both these places. Of these, 1,200 will be oxygen beds and 400 will be ICU beds. The administration is trying to start Jumbo Hospital from August 20.

Last week, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had ordered immediate setting up of jumbo hospitals, as there is a sharp increase in the number of COVID affected patients in the district. Accordingly, COEP ground site was identified for one jumbo hospital, while the remaining two sites were being sought by the administration. One of these venues has been fixed at the SSPMS ground.

PCMC’s Balnagari and Auto-cluster are being converted into 1000-bedded COVID Care Centre for admitting coronavirus positive patients. The work is in full swing and both the facilities will be operational soon.

The deadline for setting up the hospitals is August 22. However, the construction of a hospital is expected to be completed by August 20. By the end of August, the number of COVID patients is expected to cross two lakh mark in Pune city while in PCMC the number is projected to reach 50,000 by August 15. .
