Coronavirus in Pune: Trials of Ayurvedic medicines to begin next week

Pune, June 4, 2020: Ayurveda and Allopathy are coming together for the first time for Ayurvedic medicine on Coronavirus. Nationwide trials of Ayurvedic medicine will begin next week, with results expected in about four months.
Dr Girish Tillu, a researcher, at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), who is involved in the project on ‘Corona’, gave the information. The tests are being conducted under the leadership of Dr Arvind Chopra. Attempts are being made to develop two types of medicines, preventive and treatment. Medicines for treatment include AYUSH 64, Jyeshthamadha, Pimpali and Gulvel, while Ashwagandha is being used for preventive medicine. The testing project will involve doctors of both Ayurvedic and Allopathy treatments in the respective hospitals.
Dr Tillu said that this is the first time the two treatment methods have come together in such a way that they are trying to develop medicine for Coronavirus disease (COVID19). The tests will look at the effect of Ayurvedic medicines along with allopathic medicines. It will also take into account the patient’s overall quality of life and the long-term effects of the medication. It usually takes four months to get the test results. Coronavirus medicine may then be available. Ayurveda and Allopathy are coming together for the first time and doing research for medicine, which is an important project in terms of research in the country, said DrTillu explained.
Tests at 15 locations across the country: The tests will be conducted in 15 hospitals in seven cities, including Pune, Delhi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Amravati, Varanasi and Lucknow. The tests will be conducted through the Ministry of AYUSH, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
