Coronavirus Pune: 8 Jawans of SRPF found COVID positive in Daund

Pune, May 2, 2020: Eight jawans of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) battalion based in Daund, has been detected Coronavirus positive. They had returned recently from duty in red zone areas of Mumbai.

According to SRPF, three officers and 85 policemen were deployed in various red zones in Mumbai where several COVID positive patients have been found. They returned to the headquarters in Daund on April 16. They were quarantined for 14 days as a precautionary measure. Their medical test was also being done.

On April 28, their throat swab samples were collected and sent for test to a lab. The reports of eight of them have come positive. Accordingly, the SRPF medical officer and commandant informed the Pune district administration through Daund Taluka health officer (THO) about the medical test report.

According to officials, the SRPF is deployed in Mumbai for bandobast duty. Mumbai has the highest number of COVID patients in Maharashtra. Yesterday 751 new patients were reported positive taking the total tally to 7625 in Mumbai. In Pune district, the number of COVID cases has reached about 1800. In Maharashtra, the total cases have reached 11,506 while across India the COVID cases have reached 35,365 out of which 9064 have been cured and discharged while 1152 have died.
