Coronavirus: Total COVID cases reach 9915 in Maharashtra, 31787 in India

Pune, April 29, 2020: Health minister Rajesh Tope said that the current count of COVID19 patients in the state of Maharashtra is 9915. Today, newly 597 patients have been identified as positive for Covid19. From these,1593 Covid19 patients have been cured and discharged from the respective hospitals. Currently, 1,62,860 people are in-home quarantine and 10,813 people are in institutional quarantine.

 

There were 104 fresh cases of Coroavirus positive patients in Pune district till 9 pm today, as per the Pune district health officer (DHO) Dr Bhagwan Pawar. Till now a total of 268 patients have been cured while 86 patients have died.

 

There were 32 COVID-related deaths in the state today. Out of these, 26 deaths were recorded in Mumbai, 3 in Pune district, 1 was recorded in Solapur city, 1 in Aurangabad city and 1 in Panvel city. Out of the 32 deaths today, 25 were men and 7 women. 17 of them aged over 60 years, 15 were from the age group 40 to 59 years. 18 out of 32 patients (56%) had high-risk co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, etc. Death toll in Covid-19 patients has now gone up to 432 in the state.

 

Out of 1,37,159 laboratory samples, 1,26,376 were negative and 9915 have been tested positive for coronavirus until today. As per the guidance from the Government of India, cluster containment action plan is being implemented in places where clusters of patients have been found in the state. There are 723 active containment zones in the state currently. Total 9811 surveillance squads worked today across the state and surveillance of 40.43 lakh population was done. 

 

A high-level multi-disciplinary central team under the leadership of Dr A. K. Gadpayle is on a visit to Pune Division currently. This team is reviewing COVID-19 prevention and control activities on field level. The team has Dr Sagar Borkar (Public Health Expert), Dr VS Randhava (Microbiologist) and Dr Anshu Gupta (Anaesthetist) as its members. They recently visited Solapur.

 

During the visit, alongside the District Health Officer, the team had discussions with District Collector of Solapur Milind Shambharkar, Solapur Municipal Commissioner Deepak Tawre, Police Commissioner (Solapur city) Ankush Shinde and SP (Solapur rural) Manoj Patil.

 

They also reviewed the implementation of containment activities by actually visiting the containment zones in the field. The sudden increase of patients in Solapur, preventive measures and issues of workers in the informal sector were the key issues discussed. In the 20 containment zones of Solapur, 174 surveillance squads are doing the daily surveillance of about 97,000 people. 

 

Across India there were 1813 new cases and 71 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of COVID19 positive cases in India has reached 31787 (including 22982 active cases, 1008 deaths, 7797 cured/discharged and 1 migrated), said Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
