Mumbai, 26 February 2021: Maharashtra DGP, while answering a question on corruption during a press conference, said that corruption is part of the system and cannot be eradicated completely.

He replied, “I am not defending corruption. I am just saying that corruption is part of the system, and it is tough to get it out of the system. The only thing we can do is prevent any government servant from engaging in it, and we should be able to detect maximum cases of corruption.”

He also said that it is not that corruption is only in the police department or the revenue department, or the forest department. It is a part of the system, which is spread everywhere.

He tried to explain how 100 percent corruption cannot be eradicated by giving an example. He said, “If there are 100 people in the society, then some of them will mess up. All we can do is bring them in front of everyone.”
