COVID: First Patient Of Delta Plus Variant Reported In Pune City
Pune, 14th August 2021: Coronavirus Delta Plus variant patients also appear to be on the rise during the pandemic. After the death of a woman due to Delta Plus in Mumbai on Friday, now a Delta Plus patient has been found in Pune as well.
The first Delta Plus patient has been found in Pune city and the total number in the district is six. Delta variants are found in more than 80 per cent of the samples in the state. The survey has so far identified 66 Delta Plus variants in Maharashtra.
Five of the Delta Plus patients have died, two in Ratnagiri and one each in Mumbai, Beed and Raigad. Another Delta Plus patient was registered in Thane district on Friday, bringing the total number of Delta Plus patients in the state to 66. Ten of the victims have taken both doses of the corona vaccine.
All five patients who died from Delta Plus were over 65 years of age and had high-risk illnesses. Of the five, two had received two doses of the Covishield vaccine, while the other had not taken any vaccine. Vaccination of one of the deceased patients has not been reported yet, the health department said.
A 50-year-old woman was infected with Delta Plus in Thane district, the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, said on Friday. The woman was detected COVID positive on July 22 and has now recovered.
Of the 66 Delta Plus patients found so far, 32 are men and 34 are women. Out of the affected patients, 31 were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms and did not require hospitalization. 10 patients have completed both doses of the vaccine, while eight have received only one dose. Two of them have been vaccinated with Covaxin and the rest have been vaccinated with Covishield.
A 63-year-old woman has died in Mumbai due to a mutated variant of Delta Plus. The woman had completed both doses of the vaccine and was suffering from lung disease. This is the first death of a Delta Plus person in Mumbai.
How many patients in which district
The highest number of Delta Plus patients in Maharashtra was found in Jalgaon. Thirteen Delta Plus patients were found there, followed by Ratnagiri (12), Mumbai (11), Thane (6), Pune (6) and Chandrapur, Akola, Sindhudurg, Sangli, Nandurbar, Aurangabad, Kolhapur and Beed. Two each in Gondia, Nanded and Raigad and three in Palghar.
